Türkei: Offenbar Militär-Putsch gegen Erdogan

Das türkische Militär hat offenbar in der vergangenen halben Stunde einen Putsch gegen die Regierung in Ankara unternommen. Die Armee meldet die vollständige Machtübernahme. In Istanbul patrouillieren schwer bewaffnete Sicherheitskräfte. Die Regierung Erdogan behauptet allerdings, noch an der Macht zu sein.

Military Coup in Turkey: Third Piece of Greater Kurdistan in Play

Well, the third piece of the Greater Kurdistan puzzle is in play. The Turkish military, historically close to US intelligence agencies and NATO, has reportedly staged a coup in the country in an effort to unseat the elected government of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Prime Minister Binali Yildirim of the AKP, or Freedom and Justice Party.
“Some people illegally undertook an illegal action outside of the chain of command,” Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said in comments broadcast on NTV, a private television channel. “The government elected by the people remains in charge. This government will only go when the people say so.” NYT
A group of military figures announced tonight that they have taken control of the entire government. There are tanks positioned outside the airports and they have shut down two main bridges in and out of Istanbul.
A statement from the military group read out on NTV television said: “The power in the country has been seized in its entirety.” Who represents the group remains uncertain. BBC
Reminiscent of Chile 1973, there are reports of fighter jets roaring over the capital. Of course, we all know who was behind that coup.

Turkey wants to re-establish good relations with Syria

Ankara has said it wants to re-establish good relations with Syria, BBC reported.
Up to today, the government of Turkey has been preferring to advocate the overthrow of the Syrian President, Bashar al-Assad. However, according to Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim, Turkey needs to improve relations with Syria “for the fight against terrorism” and stability in the region.
“It is our greatest and irrevocable goal: developing good relations with Syria and Iraq, and all our neighbours that surround the Mediterranean and the Black Sea,” Yildirim said in comments broadcast live on television on July 13.
The Syrian government still has not given an official response.
Diplomatic ties between Turkey and Syria were severed in 2011, after the uprising against Bashar al-Assad began. Turkey is the main backer of both the political and armed Syrian opposition. In December, the Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, alleged that Assad had “mercilessly killed 400,000 innocent people”.
Now Turkey decided to change its opinion. However, at the same time, the Turkish Prime Minister stressed that any shift in Turkey’s policy towards Syria was dependent on Bashar al-Assad, and accused him of creating the conditions that gave rise to the jihadist group, Islamic State (IS).
