Suicide bomber who slaughtered 22 'was known to police': Attacker was CAUGHT on CCTV and may have carried out a recce mission to Ariana Grande concert venue
  • Police trying to establish who carried out attack at Manchester Arena last night
  • Examining whether the suicide bomber was a 'lone wolf' or part of a terror cell
  • Terrorist was killed in the blast as he murdered 22 after Ariana Grande concert
  • Understood to have arrived at a nearby train station before detonating device
The suicide bomber who slaughtered 22 at Manchester Arena may have been known to police before carrying out last night's atrocity, it has emerged.
An urgent police probe is underway this morning to determine whether the attacker acted alone or had accomplices as part of a wider terror cell.
Officers are also combing CCTV to determine whether he carried out a 'recce' of the arena before detonating a nail bomb as thousands were leaving the Ariana Grande concert at 10.30pm.
Nobody has claimed responsibility for the explosion, which is being treated as an act of terrorism. But last night, ISIS supporters were celebrating the massacre online while two messages, posted four hours before the attack, appeared to predict the mass killing.
Concert halls and nightspots have been targeted in the past in ISIS attacks, including in Paris at the Bataclan music venue in 2015 and at the Reina nightclub in Istanbul on New Year's Eve. It is not yet clear why Manchester has been targeted.
The suicide attacker is said to have been 'known' to the authorities and anti-terrorist officers are going through hundreds of hours of CCTV footage trying to 'pick him up' during his journey to the arena.....

'They were more interested in whether we had bottles of water': Concert-goers slam 'lax' security at Ariana Grande show as expert claims it was deliberately picked as a 'soft target'
  • Concert-goers have slammed 'lax security' at the Ariana Grande concert
  • 22 people have died and 59 people were injured following suicide bombing
  • One woman claims security were more interested in checking for bottles
  • Security expert says the bomber deliberately detonated at a 'security soft spot'
  • Emerged a woman complained about lack of security at stadium last month
Concert goers have slammed the 'lax' security at the arena where 22 people after a suicide bomber detonated a suspected nail bomb in a 'security soft spot'.
An unnamed male suicide bomber detonated a homemade bomb inside the foyer of the arena following an Ariana Grande concert last night, at the point where gig-goers are most vulnerable.
Nikola Trochtova, who attended the Ariana Grande concert at Manchester Arena last night, accused security of being 'more interested in whether we were carrying bottles of water' than checking for weapons.
Meanwhile, it has emerged that a woman who went to see Ed Sheeran perform at the arena last month had complained about the lack of security....

The attacker who killed 22 people at Manchester Arena targeted a security soft spot while concert goers got public transport home, a security expert said today.
They detonated a homemade bomb in the walkway between the stadium and the station.
‘No doubt they would have carried out some reconnaissance, it will have been very well planned and the individuals might have regarded the security at the stadium as too difficult and chosen the walkway as the next best option,’ Will Geddes, CEO of security consultants ICP, said.
He said people going to concerts are most vulnerable while arriving and leaving.

Police chief apologises after fake Muslim shouts 'Allahu Akbar' in simulated suicide bomb attack at Manchester's Trafford Centre
A police chief has been forced to apologise for featuring a fake Muslim shouting "Allahu Akbar" in a major counter terrorism training exercise against Isil.
The exercise had depicted a suicide bomber detonating explosives and opening fire in the middle of a busy shopping mall.
But critics claimed the depiction of the terrorist "stereotyped" Muslims during the mock up at the Trafford Centre, near Manchester which was aimed at testing the emergency response to an extremist attack in the wake of ISIS led assaults on Paris and Brussels.
Dr Erinma Bell, who describes herself as a "Community Activist in Peace & Conflict Resolution" blasted on Twitter:

Terror training exercise staged at Trafford Centre
Exercise at Manchester shopping centre also included masked gunman as part of training for Paris or Brussels-style assault
A mock terrorist attack has been carried out at one of the UK’s busiest shopping centres, in a marauding assault similar to the Paris and Brussels atrocities.
More than 800 volunteers took part in the staged attack at the Trafford Centre in Manchester on Monday night.
As part of the drill a fake suicide bomber detonated an explosive device in a packed food court at the shopping centre.
The volunteers, wearing ear defenders and safety glasses, screamed out as if they were in pain as the training exercise unfolded.
